City of Terre Haute - Brownfields Program
The City of Terre Haute Brownfields Program works in partnership
with the Indiana Brownfields Program, the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency and other Indiana agencies to assist in the cleanup and resue of
brownfields by identifying and mitigating environmental barriers
that impede sustainable redevelopment and local economic growth.
The State of Indiana defines a brownfield site as a parcel or real
estate that
- is abandoned or inactive; or
- may not be operated at its appropriate use; and
- on which expansion, redevelopment, or reuse is complicated because
of the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, a
contaminant, petroleum, or a petroleum product that poses a risk to
human health and the environment.
The City of Terre Haute Brownfields Program was created in August
2006 to systematically identify, investigate and remediate public and
private brownfield sites located throughout the community for
redevelopment and development reuse.
