KTHB SR46 Median Beautification Project Completed
Through the 2009 State Giving Program, the Wal-Mart Foundation presented a check for $25,000 to Keep Terre Haute Beautiful (KTHB), a certified affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.
The State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact. KTHB used the funds for increased community education concerning waste and littering. Additionally, KTHB and the City of Terre Haute worked on a gateway project on the City’s east side.
The project included the three medians at the intersection of SR-46 and U.S. 40. Metzger Landscape did most of the work with KTHB. The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department also helped, along with new curb painting by the Street Department. During the fall planting season, the City will complete similar work at the intersection of Poplar St. and S.R. 46.
Mayor Duke Bennett and Esther Anderson, KTHB Executive Director, wish to thank Wal-Mart for its continuing support of Terre Haute. Mayor Bennett worked closely with the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Crawfordsville office to secure the proper permits to accomplish the work. This project has made a huge impact in that area, and adds to that positive, first impression as people enter our City from the east.
Through the State Giving Program, the Wal-Mart Foundation seeks to support organizations with programs that align with their mission to create opportunities so people can live better. More information can be found on Wal-Mart’s site at http://walmartstores.com/CommunityGiving/8168.aspx
